Truth or Dare Questions: 160 Truths and 120 Safe, Funny Dares

Each player chooses to answer a truth question honestly or complete a dare, and the turn passes around the group.

Truth or dare questions keep a party moving, as long as everyone feels comfortable. On each turn, a player chooses truth and answers a question honestly, or chooses dare and completes a challenge. This page has 160 clean truths sorted for kids, teens, friends and family, plus 120 safe dares that are silly, never dangerous and never humiliating. Use the two random pickers to play straight from your phone.

How to play truth or dare

  1. Sit in a circle. Decide who goes first. Some groups spin a bottle on the floor to choose, others simply go around the circle.
  2. Ask "Truth or dare?" The current player chooses one.
  3. Truth: the asker reads a truth question and the player answers honestly.
  4. Dare: the asker gives a dare and the player completes it.
  5. Pass the turn. The player who just went becomes the next asker, or play moves to the left.

House rules to agree first

  • Passes: give each player one or two passes for the whole game. A common rule is that if you pass on a truth, you must take a dare instead, and the other way round.
  • Dare limit: some groups say nobody can pick dare more than twice in a row, so truths get a turn too.
  • Safety first: no dares that involve eating or drinking (to keep allergies out of the picture), leaving the house, touching anyone without their OK, damaging anything, or doing something unsafe.
  • Kind questions only: truths should be fun to answer, not designed to embarrass. Anyone can say "pass" on a question that feels too personal.

Tips for a great game

  • Read the room. Start with silly dares and easy truths, then move to deeper questions once everyone is relaxed.
  • Keep dares short. Dares that last under a minute keep the circle moving. Longer ones can run in the background, such as talking like a pirate for three rounds.
  • Grown ups set the tone. At kids' parties, have an adult read the questions and dares so everything stays fair and friendly.
  • Spin the bottle carefully. Use a plastic bottle on carpet so nothing breaks.
  • Mix in group dares. Dares that involve two or three players get quieter guests laughing too.

Truth or dare fits nicely into a sleepover or a birthday party. For more question games, try never have I ever, would you rather questions or two truths and a lie, and browse our party games for kids for younger groups.

Questions people ask

What are good truth or dare questions?

Good truths are fun and personal without being embarrassing, such as asking about a favorite memory, a hidden talent or the silliest thing someone has done. Good dares are short, safe and funny, like talking like a pirate for three rounds. The lists above have 160 truths and 120 dares to choose from.

What are good dares for truth or dare?

The best dares are quick, silly and safe, such as doing an animal impression, singing like an opera star or inventing a new dance for the group. Avoid anything involving food, leaving the room, damaging property or making someone feel bad. Every dare on this page follows those rules.

What are good truth or dare questions for friends?

Ask about shared memories and fun opinions, such as your first impression of each other, the funniest thing you have seen in public or your go to karaoke song. The truths for friends section above has 40 questions like these.

What happens if you do not want to answer a truth or do a dare?

Most groups give each player one or two passes per game. A common house rule is that skipping a truth means taking a dare instead, and the other way round. Anyone should be able to pass on a question that feels too personal.

Is there a truth or dare generator?

Yes, the two random pickers on this page work as a truth or dare generator. Choose a category, tap the button and read out the question or dare. It saves you from thinking of ideas on the spot.
